Back On Track! Stormers vs Highlanders 33-0 BANG!

I know it’s old news and sorry  I didn’t get on it earlier but I’ve been sick in bed the last couple of days.  Bombed out on Sunday morning and was MAN DOWN till yesterday morning, trust me.  Hence my delay in this post.  But enough of feeling sorry for myself, which is a little nice every now and then… Ha!

Brian Habonus point!

After our disappointing performance last week against the Brumbies we really needed to pick things up a little and, as you know, that’s exactly what the boys did!  It all started with a good weeks training and focusing on the things we could change.  Like i said previously, last week we didn’t play to our strengths and that’s what cost us the game.

Scoring tries has also been a bit of a problem for us.  Winning each match is obviously the first priority but in the end it often comes down to bonus points and points difference.  Which we’ve been victim to numerous times in the past I might add…  So to score  33 points, get 4 tries, get the bonus point and give them nothing is exactly what we needed at this time.

Currently we are still the top defensive side in the Super 14, with only 2 tries being scored against us.  Something that we pride ourselves on and hope to keep it that way.  However, there are still a lot of games left and defence alone isn’t going to win us the competition.

All in all, a good weekend for us!

Where you going bro?

So we’ve got the Hurricanes this weekend and need to carry through this momentum!  Hope to see you all there.

The Wandering Fever

Great win for Flo and the stormers this weekend. It takes a lot to stop a team such as the Highlanders from scoring a single point in a game. I was glad to see Habana continuing with his electrifying maneuvers and running in a great try at the end of the game.

Whilst cruising around the interweb this morning I managed to stumble upon a very inspiring video clip which I want to share with everyone. I know a lot of you will have heard something about this guy as he has been all over the show recently.

The Wandering Fever is a documentary about Ultra Athlete Ryan Sandes a.k.a “Hedgie”. I’m going to leave it up to the trailer to do all the explaining.

As we are everything Cape Town, we wish Ryan (Hout Bay) best of luck for the rest of the competitions to come.

Ram’dFest 2010

Ok it took me four days to recover but I can honestly say that Ramfest is one event not to be missed in the future.

Robo-Ert & Jack Parrow ‘gooi’ing’ a little Havana Club and Coke

The mainstage was shown some pretty impressive competition this year from the Electro tent and the Havana Club Voodoo Beach party. There is nothing wrong with a couple of Havana Club Especial and cokes by the water with the likes of Jack Parow and Haezer.

Here are some pics of what went down:

Stormers vs Higlanders

Okay so now I’m over my 4 day depression!  Lets not talk too much about last weekend.  We absolutely ‘mared’ it!  Looking back at the video earlier this week, we can really see the opportunities we had and how it just came down to finishing off.  Anyway, sometimes you need a wake up and hopefully that was it.

So we’ve got the Highlanders on Saturday at Newlands.  The Southern boys are a hard bunch so it should be a good physical battle up front.  We obviously have to make up for last week and it is also a necessity to perform at home.  It was a solid week at training but just ‘helluva’ hot, again!

Hope to see you all on Saturday evening.  Kick-off 5 bells!

RAMFEST – VOODOO ISLAND

Pretty much the same time Frankie Louw will be strapping up for the big encounter with the Brumbies ( in italics as this word is always pronounced with an accent), Robo-ert will be heading off to the fourth installment of SA’s number one alternative music festival – RAMFEST 2010.

The magic behind Dawid Fourie’s (owner /organizer) festival is that he always makes sure that the music genres are of a wide variety and are all at the top of their games. UK’s Pendulum will be headlining along side names like Jack Parow, Fokofpolisiekar, Kidofdoom, haezer and CT’s Bruce Willis.

For those of you looking for something different at the actual event, come down to the Havana Club / Vice Voodoo Island for an afternoon of abnormality. Click on picture for the full story….

Voodoo Beach party

So watch this space for a complete report back of what went down.

As Always Good luck to Flo Louw and the rest of the crew as they take on the Brumbies. Good to see Matty T back at Newlands even though he is the opposition jersey. Matt if you reading this…What’s your Vibe?

2010 World Cup Funded Transport Projects

“The Cape Town Integrated Transport Plan aims to provide a world-class sustainable transport system that moves people and goods effectively, efficiently, safely and affordably.”

This is all very awesome and probably going to be very efficient once completed.  But can all this really cost that much?  Seriously.  30 bar for road sinage upgrades…   Rather safe than sorry, right?

Friday Night Lights – Stormers vs Brumbies

Been a short week with only 2 training sessions but no time to waste. The Brumbies are going to come out firing on Friday night after their defeat against the Bulls last week and we need to have our systems and plans sorted out.  Which are by the way!

Besides the excruciating heat and humidity yesterday the week has gone pretty well.  It’s definitly not Cape Town weather, more like Natal actually.  But these days you need to be prepared for anything.  El nino…  Scary!

With Schalk out at the moment, Andries will be taking over the captaincy.  ”Langes”  did a good job last week and will definitely be leading from the front again, with his ‘lumo’ booties!

Well here’s your team for the weekend.

Team for Friday:

15. Joe Pietersen
14. Gio Aplon
13. Jaque Fourie
12. Juan De Jongh
11. Bryan Habana
10. Peter Grant
9. Ricky Januarie
8. Duane Vermeulen
7 Francois Louw
6. Pieter Louw
5. Andries Bekker (C)
4. De Kock Steenkamp
3. Brok Harris
2. Tiaan Liebenberg
1. JC Kritzinger

Reserves

16. Deon Fourie
17. Eusebio Guinazu
18. Anton Van Zyl
19. Pieter Myburgh
20. Dewaldt Duvenage
21. Lionel Cronje

Kick-off 19h10 Friday the 26th.  See you there!

New Gazelle Video – “Just Now”

It was a wise man who told me that he was “pimping on a low budget, hustling on a high level.”

That man was Gazelle’s lead singer and here is a fine example of how he does it. Check out their new music video which clearly looks like was shot in Europe. I dont think anyone else in the video has been cast or directed in anyway. Check it out you’ll see what I mean….

Just now

It is called Just Now. As in not right now….not later…..just now.

borde{aux}room – Enlighten The Enthusiasts

bordeauxroom (This is how the French say it. Just add “room” at the end) took the Stormers team on a little wine blending expedition out into Franschhoek last week.  I tell you some interesting blends came out of that…  In fact, most of the boys were pretty impressive with their concoctions but there were definitely a couple of, “this tastes so ‘kak’ my face is starting to pull in funny directions” blends.  Either way it was a fantastic experience and I can recommend it to anyone keen to get out and do something a little different!  ”Get involved!”

A few words from the proprietor himself, David Wibberley:

With the Stormers not being able to put down the tackle bags and have much time for social activities during their preparation, bordeauxroom in collaboration with Haut Espoir Wine Estate gave the Super 14 contenders an opportunity to bond as a unit with a Red Wine Blending Competition.

http://www.vimeo.com/9578918

Let the blending begin…

Teamed up in several teams ranging from the “Gentle Giants” to the “High Hopes” , the day was a great success in all with all members of the Estate getting involved, with Winemaker Nikey van Zyl not giving away too many tips to the ever pressing Front Rowers.

There were some contended developments as each player participating in contributing to their teams blend consisting of all 5 Bordeaux varietals. With percentages measured out as accurately as possible, the hour time limit was used right until the last second to ensure that their team blend would stand up to the tasting panels critical assessment.

With a very discerning Judges Panel at hand the task ahead was certainly not for the faint hearted, kind of like the feeling of taking on the Crusaders Front Row. All teams certainly made the effort and there were some Wines that were even considered for a Haut Espoir Estate Blend. In the end the top 3 had to be blind tasted with all 3 pleasantly inseparable.  The Winning Team ‘ Petit V ‘ which became the ‘ Petit III ‘ consisted of Willem de Waal, Dylan des Fountain and Dewaldt Elstadt. Although there were some cries of  ‘Cheat-ah’s from the unplaced teams, with a certain flyhalf having a degree in Viticulture.

Special mention must go to Colcacchio’s Franschhoek and Jack Black Beer to providing some gap fillers for the Team and a refreshing palate cleanser for Boys in Blue.

The mission of bordeauxroom is to enlighten the enthusiasts of the curious South African into a new direction of tasting wine. We want to add dimension where there is education, creation and a generated desire to seek new wines and new experiences. We will strive to take the heart and soul of the winemaker and replace the boardroom briefings, Trade Show, Festivals and even the festive Wine Club, with the ‘ tastevins’ of the present day.

The wine industry produces many fine pieces of art and they need to be displayed in various ways for all to enjoy. By getting into the hands of those who don’t have the chance to experience the everyday joy of what most people take for granted, we will offer an experience that will benefit all parties involved.
